A former employee at Pizza Hut on Murtland Avenue in South Strabane Township was charged with theft by township police after she allegedly stole more than $11,000 from the restaurant while working there late last year.

Maria Lynne Frabell, 29, of 196 Ellis Ave., Washington, is charged with theft and theft by failure to make required disposition of funds.

Township police Detective Michael Schidlmeier said township police were contacted Dec. 17 by a district manager for Pizza Hut, who reported there were multiple missing money deposits. The manager said sales analysis and accounting reports along with bank statements indicate there were 13 missing deposits totaling $11,150. The deposits should have been made on different dates between Nov. 25 and Dec. 16 and ranged from $542 to $1,257.

The district manager said the time log showed Frabell was scheduled to work as general manager on each day the deposits were missing. He said she would have been responsible for taking the deposits to the bank.

Schidlmeier talked with Frabell, who told him she initially needed money to get her car fixed. When the missing money went unnoticed, Frabell said she began taking more, he said. Frabell told Schidlmeier she had a plan to pay back the money back but things got out of control.
