Wind advisory in effect for Washington, Greene counties
The National Weather Service has issued a wind advisory in effect from 6 p.m. today to 5 a.m. Wednesday for several counties in Western Pennsylvania, including Washington and Greene counties.
Winds from the west are expected to be between 15 to 25 miles per hour with gusts up to 50 mph. The period of strongest wind will be from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
Strong wind can down tree limbs and power lines and trees rooted in saturated soil could be toppled.
Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. The NWS urges drivers to use extra caution when traveling during wind advisories.
Affected areas are Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Clarion, Fayette, Fayette Ridges, Forest, Greene, Indiana, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mercer, Venango, Washington, Westmoreland and Westmoreland Ridges.
