Area man in critical condition after crash
WAYNESBURG – A 34-year-old Nemacolin man was in critical condition Wednesday a day after a four-vehicle crash on Route 21 near the Greene County Airport.
Adam D. Smith suffered major injuries in the crash and was flown by medical helicopter to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., according to a hospital spokeswoman.
The crash happened shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday when Smith was driving westbound and crossed the centerline before striking an eastbound dump truck driven by Leonard T. Still, 69, of McCellandtown, state police said Wednesday.
Smith’s car then struck an eastbound pickup truck driven by Dorothy Jones, 30, of Carmichaels, police said. A fourth vehicle was struck by debris, police said.
Police said Smith was the only driver involved who was not wearing a seat belt.
The other drivers did not suffer serious injuries, police said.
The crash occurred about a quarter-mile east of Murtha Drive in Franklin Township.
The road was closed for nearly three hours Tuesday afternoon.
