Action: The board will enter into a contract with Independent Enterprises Inc. of Oakdale, Allegheny County, to replace the Mawhinney Road Bridge over Millers Run in Cecil Township, pending approval by the state Department of Transportation, which advertised for bids. Federal tax dollars will cover 80 percent of the $872,509 contract, while state funds will be responsible for 15 percent. County liquid fuels funds will pay for 5 percent of the project. Lisa Cessna, director of the Washington County Planning Commission, said she was unable to immediately give a date when work is to begin, but she described the interim period as “at least a month or longer.”

The board approved a $63,000 contract with Gibson-Thomas Engineering of Latrobe, Westmoreland County, to complete design of the Thompson Hill Road widening on the West Middletown side of Cross Creek County Park. The fee is to be paid from Cross Creek gas lease funds.

The commissioners entered into an agreement with Steri-Safe Compliance Solutions of Northbrook, Ill., to place 24 containers for the disposal of sharp object in men’s and women’s restrooms in the Courthouse Square and Family Courts buildings.

On behalf of the jail, the county will seek bids to replace two air handling and condensing units.

Next meeting: 10 a.m. March 17 in the public meeting room of the Courthouse Square office building.
