After deliberating about two hours last week, a Washington County jury acquitted on all counts Stephanie M. Wolfe, 43, of Millsboro, who was charged last April with forgery and identity theft by Centerville police.

She was accused of taking 24 checks belonging to George A. Kelley Jr. of Richeyville between Jan. 22, 2013, and Aug. 1, 2014, and cashing them for $19,660.05. Kelley had managed several aspects of his late mother’s finances before she died, police said.

Attorney Christopher Blackwell, who represented Wolfe, called her “a care-giving angel” for Kelley and his mother, but said Kelley turned on her after she could no longer render financial services or loan money, and that Kelley had, himself, signed 11 checks. Others signed with Kelley’s name were done with his authority, Blackwell said.

Presiding at the trial was Judge Michael Lucas.
