Robinson Township supervisors unanimously approved hiring Monica Jo Miller as municipal manager at its Monday meeting.

The board set her salary at $42,500.

“We’re glad to have her on board,” said Rodger Kendall, chairman of the supervisors, noting her experience will enable her to manage the day-to-day administration of the township. “We have high hopes.”

Miller, a college business professor, is a native of McDonald and graduated from Fort Cherry High School. She earned a master’s degree in business education from Robert Morris University.

“I’m looking forward to working with the community and dealing with the changes in the community as it moves forward,” said Miller, who also will serve as treasurer.

Miller replaces Erin Sakalik, who resigned Feb. 9 after 19 months.

Also Monday, supervisors unanimously accepted the resignation of administrative assistant Susan Ritchey, who also served as secretary and right-to-know officer.

The board appointed supervisor Mary Donaldson as interim secretary with the duty of keeping record of the supervisors’ meeting minutes until a new secretary is appointed.

Solicitor Gretchen Moore was appointed interim right to know secretary until Miller takes over duties when she officially starts.

In other business, supervisors unanimously approved final land development for RES-Water of Mt. Pleasant, Westmoreland County, for a water treatment plant that will treat frack water.

On Feb. 8, the township held a public hearing regarding the land development application filed by RES. The conditional use for the property, at Routes 980 and 2230, was approved in the fall of 2014.

The impoundment will hold approximately 12 million gallons of frack water, and an estimated 150 trucks per day will haul the water.

Also Monday, supervisors accepted the resignation of Howard Fugitt, secretary of the planning commission, and appointed Ken Glass to fill the vacancy. Glass will serve until Fugitt’s term ends Dec. 31, 2019.

In another matter, Kendall told residents he met informally with McDonald supervisors to discuss a merger of the two municipalities, but said the two sides decided to postpone any talks until Robinson hired a new township manager.
