West Greene Lions honor 3 outstanding students
The West Greene Lions Club recently recognized three West Greene High School students, Owen Main, Kaitlin Kreuzer and Vanessa Black, as outstanding students.
Main, the son of Mark and Lisa Main of Waynesburg, is an honor roll student and a member of the international club, ski club and Spanish club.
He was a homecoming court attendant, WPIAL sportsmanship summit attendant, Pioneer award recipient for football, citizenship award recipient and Fletcher-Bissett Memorial Award recipient for wrestling.
Main also was a WPIAL leadership conference attendant, a student athlete of the year, offensive player of the year in football, a Tri-County South all-conference team member in football and a Bee Graphics’ all-star team member in football.
He was football team captain in 2015 and a homecoming king.
Main volunteered during an American Red Cross blood drive and was announcer for the West Virginia International Barrel Races Association. He also volunteers with the Center Township Volunteer Fire Co.
He plans to attend West Virginia University and major in environmental and energy resources management.
Kreuzer, the daughter of Chuck and Lisa Kreuzer of Sycamore, is a member of the Spanish club, art club, National Honor Society, academic league and choir.
She was vice president of the National Honor Society and varsity volleyball captain.
Kreuzer was a prom court attendant, homecoming court attendant, homecoming queen, student athlete of the year and is a school triple jump record holder. She received the citizenship award and the Challenge Program academic excellence award. She is an honor roll student.
She helped pack lunch bags at the Corner Cupboard Food Bank, served Thanksgiving dinner at St. Ann’s Church, organized and ran an Easter egg hunt for the Nineveh community and participated in an American Red Cross blood drive and in roadside cleanups.
Kreuzer plans to attend West Virginia University to major in business and minor in fashion merchandising.
Black is a member of National Honor Society, academic league, quiz bowl, Spanish club, Future Farmers of America and is a keystone tutor.
She participates in volleyball, track and field, cross country, chorus and county chorus. She was a varsity football film assistant and a wrestling Grapplerette and participated in powder puff football and the United States Achievement Academy.
Black is a highest honor student, National Honor Society inductee and was a top ten student athlete, sports summit attendee, homecoming attendant and prom attendant.
She received the academic achievement award, a volleyball athletic letter, track and field athletic letter, Grapplerette letter, FFA Greene Hand Degree and chapter FFA degree.
Black won first place in the agricultural education days. She also won first place for a work bench project and small electric project at the Jacktown Fair.
Black participated in the spring cleanup at Ryerson Station State Park, helped fill food bags at the Corner Cupboard Food bank and assisted with the Nineveh Community Easter Egg Hunt.
She also assisted with children’s activities at the Valley Chapel Bible School, is a member, volunteer and choir participant at Maranatha Baptist Church. She assisted in an adoption clinic and volunteered at Catnip Acres.
She participated in job shadowing at the Waynesburg Animal Hospital and Ryerson Station State Park.
Black is a summer day camp counselor for Greene County Parks and Recreation, is a caregiver for pre-teen adolescents, an elder sitter and private tutor for school students.
