WEBSTER – Federal agents are investigating the discovery of a pipe bomb along a roadside Sunday in Rostraver Township.

The FBI and U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are working with Rostraver police on the investigation into the bomb that was found by a scavenger in trash outside a residence along Tyrol Boulevard about 9:30 a.m., Rostraver police Chief Greg Resetar said Tuesday.

“It was what it appeared to be,” Resetar said.

The person who found the bomb reported it to police in neighboring Monessen. The complaint was then forwarded to Rostraver police.

Resetar said the pipe was capped off at either end, and it contained a fuse.

The Allegheny County Bomb Squad took the bomb to a ball field in nearby Webster and “made it safe,” Resetar said.
