A Monongahela woman died about 6:15 a.m. Wednesday in a single-vehicle crash on Route 136 in an area known as “Dead Man’s Curve” in Carroll Township.

Washington County Coroner Tim Warco identified the woman as 57-year-old Luann Smedley. She was pronounced dead at 7:21 a.m. near 585 Dry Run Road.

A witness told police Smedley’s vehicle was traveling west, about 45 mph, when the car veered off the right berm and bounced along a concrete barrier for about 250 feet before it hit an embankment and rolled over. The woman did not apply her brakes, which leads police to believe she suffered a health problem that led to the accident. The investigation continues, as a cause and manner of death have not been released.
