WAYNESBURG – Power was knocked out briefly in Waynesburg this morning when a tractor-trailer crashed into a utility pole on High Street about 7 a.m.

“The power went out at the police station for a few minutes and we were wondering what happened when the call came in for the crash,” said Waynesburg police Officer Nick Rennie, who responded to the scene. “It was only out for a few minutes, so it must have rerouted.”

Rennie said the truck driver had missed his exit on Interstate 79 and was driving west on High Street. He turned around in a business parking lot and started driving the wrong way on High Street, Rennie said.

When the driver realized he was on a one-way street with traffic approaching him, he tried to make a right turn onto South Woodland Avenue, but the trailer struck the pole.

Ultility workers with West Penn Power started working to replace the pole about 10:30 a.m. A spokesman on the scene said about 30 customers were affected by the power outage.
