Waynesburg man arrested in Amwell road rage
A Waynesburg man was arrested Wednesday afternoon by state police after a road rage incident that apparently started following a confrontation with his wife while they were in a vehicle in Amwell Township.
Jonathan Adam Haines, 35, of 487 Craynes Road, is charged with four counts of aggravated assault and reckless endangerment, five counts of harassment, two counts of simple assault and one count each of terroristic threats and driving under suspension.
State police said Haines and his wife, identified in court records as P. Warnick, were in his pickup truck on Ten Mile Road when he allegedly choked and hit her, causing her to get out of the vehicle.
Warnick called a friend to pick her up. The friend’s two children, one a 2-year-old boy, also were in the vehicle, state police said. While the friend was driving on Ten Mile, Haines reportedly followed them in his pickup truck and forced the vehicle off the road and into a field.
When Warnick’s friend tried to drive away, Haines allegedly jumped on the vehicle and started to hit it. He reportedly then reached through an open window and started punching Warnick. He also tried to enter the moving vehicle by opening the rear passenger door, police said. Haines reportedly grabbed the 2-year-old boy in an attempt to get into the vehicle. Another child in the vehicle was able to close the door.
Haines then went back to his truck and drove away, police said. He was later taken into custody.
He was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller and released from Washington County jail after posting $10,000 bond. He faces a June 1 preliminary hearing before District Judge Ethan Ward.
