WAYNESBURG – Central Greene School Board will hold a special meeting Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the district’s administrative office building where it is expected to vote on its preliminary 2016-17 budget.

That meeting will come a few days after the board’s budget and finance committee plans to meet at 5 p.m. May 26 to discuss the budget before recommending the final spending plan for the rest of the board to approve at next week’s special meeting.

The additional meetings are needed after the board last week delayed a decision on the proposed $34.3 million spending plan that would have included a tax increase of 1.28 mills. That proposal could change after Thursday’s meeting.

By law, the board must allow the public to review the preliminary budget for 30 days before approving it, and the final budget must be approved no later than June 30.

Board President Andrew Corfont and district business manager Jim Shargots could not be reached for comment Tuesday.
