New frequency to be used at county airport
A new frequency for air-to-ground communications will be in use today at the Washington County Airport.
UNICOM, an abbreviation for Universal Communications, provides advisory service to pilots using airports that, like Washington County’s, do not have an air traffic control tower.
The Washington County Airport will be changing its UNICOM frequency to 122.975 MHz, one of eight frequencies made available by the Federal Communications Commission. The airport will also be changing the pilot-controlled light system to the new frequency.
Scott Gray, executive director of the Washington County Airport, issued a Notice to Airmen, but he asked pilots to “be aware of your surroundings in case other pilots are still on the old UNICOM frequency. Please help us get the word out by sharing this important information with all pilots.”
Gray said he learned Tuesday morning of the change in frequencies.
