Alpha Aquatics Center in Franklin Township is one of three Greene County pools that will open for the season June 5.

Memorial Day weekend traditionally marks the opening of both public and private pools in the area, and many residents will likely be heading to their favorite swimming spot as temperatures are expected to top 80 degrees.

Greene County will open three public swimming pools this weekend. Alpha Aquatics Center in Franklin Township will open at noon Saturday. Greene County Department of Recreation is offering a family-of-four season pass special to Alpha for $299.

Carmichaels Pool at Wana B Park and Mon View Pool in Greensboro will open at 1 p.m. Season passes are $199.

The three pools will remain open over the Memorial Day weekend, but will close next week before opening full-time for the summer June 4.

The opening date for the swimming pool at Ryerson Station State Park in Richhill Township has been delayed until at least mid-June because of a shortage of lifeguards.

In Washington County, Canonsburg Town Park pool in Canonsburg will open from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday. The pool will stay open through Monday and will open on weekends only until June 10, when it will open daily.

Terri Startare, Canonsburg Town Park board president, said Water Safety Fun Day will be June 24, in which the pool will hold the world’s largest swim lesson as well as promotions, free activities and free food from Chick-fil-a and Texas Roadhouse. Visits from firefighters, police and emergency medical technicians are set throughout the day.

Mineral Beach in Finleyville will open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today, weather permitting. Daily admission is $6 for adults and $3 for children 11 and under. Admission will be free today.

“Hopefully, it’s a warm season,” said Diane Fisher, who manages the kitchen in the Mineral Beach snack bar.

Washington Park pool opens Saturday and will be open through Memorial Day weekend. It will be open weekends only until June 10, when it will open daily from noon to 6:30 p.m. Daily admission is $5 per person, and free for children ages 3 and under. Season passes are $60 for individuals and $160 for families.

Washington Park pool will host a family night every Wednesday, weather permitting, from 7 to 10 p.m. Families who do not have passes to the pool can come out for $10 per family, with a limit of five family members for an evening of pool fun and activities.

“We’re expecting to do well. Temperatures are supposed to be low to mid-80s, but with a chance of thunderstorms,” said Bill Loar, pool manager.

Sunset Beach in Buffalo Township is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday through Monday, weather permitting. It will close until June 3, when it will be open daily. Admission is $9 for adults, and $7 for children between 4 and 11. Children 3 and younger are admitted free.
