WAYNESBURG – Someone in Greene County is a million dollars richer.

A Powerball ticket that won $1 million in Saturday night’s drawing was sold at the BFS Foods convenience store in Greene Plaza along Route 21 in Franklin Township, Pennsylvania Lottery officials announced Monday morning.

The ticket matched all five white balls, 17-19-21-37-44, but did not have the winning red Powerball of 16, leaving it one number shy of the estimated $421 million jackpot. The winning jackpot ticket was sold in Tennessee.

Jessica Hanlan, a manager at the BFS store located just outside of Waynesburg, was unaware her store had sold the $1 million lottery winner until contacted by a reporter Monday morning.

She didn’t remember the store ever selling a winning ticket that big, and she couldn’t guess who the lucky winner might be.

“It’s exciting,” she said. “I didn’t even know about it until (Monday).”

The BFS Foods convenience store will receive a $5,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. The $1 million ticket was one of two sold in Pennsylvania, with the other from Delmont, Westmoreland County.

The winner of that $1 million Powerball ticket now has one year to claim the prize. Lottery officials encourage winners to immediately sign the back of the ticket and contact their headquarters in Dauphin County at 717-702-8146 to file a claim Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Claims can also be filed at the lottery’s area offices each weekday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Greene County has been on a lucky streak over the past 13 months with major lottery winners.

The BFS Foods store on Locust Avenue in Mt. Morris sold three big jackpot tickets, although for different games. The store sold one of four top-prize $1 million tickets during the October 2015 drawing of the Pennsylvania Lottery’s Millionaire Raffle. It later sold a $112,500 Cash 5 winner in February and then a $325,000 winner in that same game this past August.
