The state police Clandestine Laboratory Response Team was called early Thursday to the Trinity Point parking lot near Walmart after South Strabane Township police discovered a suspected portable, one-pot methamphetamine laboratory in the trunk of a vehicle.

Police had been initially called to the store about 12:45 a.m. for a report of the theft. The car was then discovered in the lot.

North Strabane Township police Sgt. Matt Mancini and his dog Drago responded to search the exterior of the car after the owner initially refused to allow police to search it. The response team collected and removed the hazardous materials. Police were at the scene for almost five hours.

Police said a passenger in the car was taken into custody by Redstone Township police, who wanted him on a warrant.

South Strabane police are continuing their investigation and charges are pending against the driver and passenger.
