PLUM (AP) – Authorities in Western Pennsylvania said a teenage girl walking on railroad tracks near Pittsburgh was struck and killed by a train.

Police in Allegheny County said the 17-year-old was walking on Bessemer Lake Erie Railroad tracks in Plum near the Oakmont Country Club pedestrian bridges.

Superintendent James Morton said the girl didn’t move from the tracks “despite numerous signals from the train” and was struck shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday.

The county medical examiner’s office said she was pronounced dead just before 6 p.m. Saturday at Forbes Regional Hospital.

Patrick Waldron, a spokesman for Canadian National Railway, said two cars comprised the southbound train, which was halted while police investigated. No traffic was affected.
