South Strabane residents again being told to lock their vehicles
South Strabane Township police, for the second time this month, are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and not to leave valuables inside after another rash of thefts.
Multiple vehicles were reported entered in the Washington Woods, Willowbrook and Cameron Estates plans off Cameron Road near Trinity East Elementary School, Detective Kenneth Torboli said Tuesday. A few vehicles also were entered in the Windsor Highlands plan off East Beau Street (Route 136). Torboli said the thefts were reported over the last week.
“The thefts happened overnight and all the vehicles were not locked,” Torboli said. “They took whatever articles they could find inside, including guns. And the theft of guns is a concern for us.”
Earlier this month, several residents living in the Locust Avenue area, including Moger and Janet drives, called police after waking up to discover their vehicles had been entered and items stolen. A long gun was reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Locust.
Torboli has also talked with North Strabane Township police, who arrested a South Franklin Township couple early Monday. Christopher Cox, 37, and Sharlene Schultz, 25, remain in Washington County Jail on charges of receiving stolen property and loitering and prowling at night after they were found about 4 a.m. Monday in the Glencannon plan. A backpack that Cox had with him contained lottery tickets believed to have been stolen from a vehicle parked about a block from where the two were found.
“There have been multiple areas that have had the same thing gong on,” Torboli said. “I am definitely keeping my options open as to whether it is one group or multiple groups.”
Anyone with information about the thefts or who recognizes the person in the surveillance photograph taken last weekend outside a house in Washington Woods that is on www.observer-reporter.com is asked to call police at 724-225-8111.
