A North Franklin Township man set fire to a mobile home where his grandmother lived because he was angry with her, state police allege.

State police on Thursday filed charges of arson and criminal mischief against the suspect, Eli Scott Daniels, 19, who is in Washington County jail on unrelated charges.

Police accuse Daniels of using gasoline to set four separate fires at the 54 Mancha St. residence of Drema Daniels about 3 p.m. Aug. 21, according to court records at the office of District Judge Curtis Thompson.

The mobile home sustained heavy smoke damage before members of Cokeburg Volunteer Fire Department arrived. A state police fire marshal questioned family members after determining there was no accidental source of the fire and finding a gasoline can in the kitchen.

Eli Daniels allegedly told an assistant district attorney in Washington County and others he was responsible for the fire when he was in court Oct. 7, the record indicates.

Daniels has been in jail since Sept. 23 on a juvenile probation violation and a charge of illegal possession of a handgun as a convict filed by police in North Franklin, where he last lived on Grove Avenue.
