Forum to focus on living with guns in our society
Washington is the site for a new project exploring community issues facing democracy. The first forum is called “Think! Guns in a Free Society.” It will take place from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Citizens Library.
All are invited to participate. Registration for the forum can be done at WQED.org/think. Registration is not required; people who would like to participate can also just walk in.
The goal is to help change our region’s conversation about guns. Participants will discuss how individuals, community group and public officials can work together to address the challenges of living with guns: reduce gun-related suicides, increase gun safety and address the economic costs of gun-related violence. Participants will have the chance to have their questions addressed by people with practical expertise with the issues being discussed.
The meeting will not focus on politics or Second Amendment issues. It will not be a discussion of legislative or political strategies. Instead, the hope is to explore productive ideas for living with guns in a free society.
This forum are part of a partnership among WQED, the League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh, the League of Women Voters of Washington County, the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Southwestern Pennsylvania and the Center for Victims.
