Chartiers man faces more drug charges
A Chartiers Township man faces more charges after police said he was found with suspected heroin when he was taken into custody Wednesday on a warrant obtained after heroin allegedly was uncovered in his home during a search earlier this year.
Frederick Devon Owens, 23, of 220 Onyx Circle, was taken into custody by Chartiers police during a traffic stop about 6:25 p.m. near the intersection of Plum Run and Brigich roads in Chartiers. Township police said he had 19 bags of suspected heroin and $1,210 in his pants pocket at the time of his arrest.
On April 29, state police and township police served a search warrant at his home. Police said they found Owens and a woman in bed with a small child. Police patted down Owens and the woman. A pill bottle containing small blue pills and a key to a safe were found on Owens, police said.
During the search, police said they found 10 bricks containing 500 bags of heroin, a large amount of oxycodone, a small amount of cocaine and $3,860. The cash and heroin were found in the safe, police said. A handgun reported stolen to Canonsburg police reportedly was found under the mattress where Owens and the woman were sleeping. A second handgun and rifle also were seized.
Owens was taken into custody at the time on an existing warrant on other drug charges stemming from the alleged sale of heroin to a confidential informant in May 2015 at a South Strabane Township parking lot. He is awaiting trial on those charges.
Owens was arraigned Wednesday before District Judge Joshua Kanalis on charges of possession with intent to deliver heroin and oxycodone, receiving stolen property and four counts of possession of a controlled substance. He was placed in Washington County jail on $250,000 bond. Owens will have a preliminary hearing Nov. 9 before District Judge David Mark.
