Prosecutors: Woman stole $200K from mother for lottery habit
GLENSHAW (AP) – A prosecutor says a Pennsylvania woman stole more than $200,000 from her mother’s bank account that she used on personal expenses, including her habit of buying $300 to $500 worth of scratch-off lottery tickets each day.
The defense attorney for 44-year-old Barbara Jane Tinyo didn’t immediately comment on the charges filed by the Allegheny County district attorney.
Investigators say the Shaler woman had been helping her 80-year-old mother handle her finances for years but recently moved into a home her mother owned because Tinyo had bad credit.
But rather than paying the bills herself as Tinyo promised, prosecutors say she used her mother’s money to pay the mortgage and utilities at least 16 times.
Tinyo also allegedly spent the money on her boyfriend’s BMW and his methadone treatment.
