An air conditioner that had been installed hour earlier outside a North Strabane Township home was destroyed by fire Wednesday.

Fire Chief Mark Grimm said a township police officer was on patrol when he spotted the air-conditioning unit on fire outside 336 McGregor Drive.

Township fire crews and firefighters from Canonsburg, Peters Township and Washington responded and were able to put the fire out before it spread to the interior of the house. Crews were on the scene for about 45 minutes.

Grimm said the cause of the fire is being investigated.
