A Beaver County man was arrested early Wednesday by Mt. Pleasant Township police after a chase on Route 18 as he was fleeing from West Virginia deputies who wanted him for an armed robbery.

Brian Joseph Williams, 46, of Monaca, was taken into custody in the 3100 block of Henderson Road (Route 18) about 1 a.m.

Township police received a call that a white car was fleeing from Hancock County sheriff’s deputies and was on Route 18 near Main Street in Hickory. The driver was wanted for an armed robbery.

The township officer waited at the intersection of Avella Road (Route 50) and Route 18. The car passed him, followed by two Hancock cruisers. Mt. Pleasant Officer Daniel McMurtrie activated the emergency lights on his cruiser and followed the car that continued at a high speed before slowing after passing Red Fox Road. Williams then pulled over and was ordered out of his car.

Deputies from Hancock returned to obtain an arrest warrant for Williams on the robbery charge.

Williams was arraigned before District Judge Larry Hopkins on charges of fleeing or eluding police, reckless endangerment, failure to drive at a safe speed and reckless driving. He was placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. A Sept. 21 preliminary hearing is scheduled before District Judge Traci McDonald.
