West Waynesburg man jailed for allegedly stealing Jeep three times
WAYNESBURG – A West Waynesburg man gave a new meaning to the term “ride-sharing” after he allegedly stole the same vehicle three times over a three-day period.
Waynesburg police said William A. Harrington, 32, of 109 Fourth St., met with the vehicle’s owner, Daniel Coneybeer, Friday about possibly purchasing his Jeep. By Monday, Coneybeer reported the vehicle stolen, police said.
After his arrest, Harrington allegedly told police Saturday, he broke the ignition on the Jeep and took the vehicle to work that day and later returned the vehicle, the complaint said. He told police he did the same thing Sunday and Monday.
Police said Monday afternoon, Coneybeer saw Harrington driving the Jeep and returning it to its original parking spot on South Cumberland Street in Waynesburg. Police said Coneybeer confronted Harrington.
“Harrington spun around aggressively on Coneybeer, at which time Coneybeer hit Harrington in the head with his pistol,” police said in the complaint.
Harrington was treated at WHS-Greene hospital before transported to the Waynesburg police station. He was charged with three counts each of theft and receiving stolen property, and one count of criminal mischief.
Harrington is being held at Greene County jail on $25,000 bond and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11 a.m. April 11.
