Cumberland Township police have charged a 21-year-old Carmichaels man with stealing a car from a party last August before rolling it over several times in a crash the next morning near Rices Landing.

Police said Devin Tennant, 21, of 111 Route 21 Mobile Home Park, stole the car that was parked at a home on Neff Road, where officers had broken up a party the previous night.

The owner of the car picked up her son from the party and left another car to be picked up later, police said.

Police said Tennant stole the car just after 7 a.m. and drove it with a juvenile boy in the passenger seat. The complaint said he was speeding when he ran a stop sign on Carmichaels Street and made a sharp turn, “causing him to roll the vehicle several times through an intersection.”

By the time police responded to the crash at 7:40 a.m., they said Tennant and the juvenile had been picked up by another person and left. Tennant allegedly stole an iPhone and contents of a wallet that were inside the car, including identification and credit cards.

He and the juvenile were later pulled over in a different vehicle by another Cumberland officer, who noticed “they were both covered in scratches and minor wounds,” police wrote in court documents.

“The juvenile claims that Tennant asked him to go for a ride that morning, but he did not know the vehicle was stolen until after the accident,” police said in the complaint.

According to police, Tennant admitted to the juvenile and another person interviewed by police he had stolen the car. He was charged with theft, receiving stolen property, theft from a motor vehicle, recklessly endangering another person, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and four summary violations.

Tennant is being held in Greene County jail on $5,000 bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. April 13 before District Judge Jesse Cramer.
