PITTSBURGH (AP) – Two Pittsburgh men who pleaded guilty to assault charges in an altercation with police officers during an anti-Trump protest almost a year ago have been sentenced to three to 12 months in jail.

Thirty-two-year-old Kennon Hooper and 30-year-old Maxwell Yearick both pleaded guilty Monday in Allegheny County to simple assault and resisting arrest. As part of their plea agreements, charges of aggravated assault were withdrawn.

Police say the men fought with officers outside Pittsburgh’s convention center during an April rally for then-candidate Donald Trump. Authorities say Hooper kicked an officer as police were trying to break a fight between two groups of protesters, and Yearick grabbed an officer’s vest and resisted arrest. Authorities said the detective who tried to arrest Yearick needed surgery for a torn bicep.
