Police file false reports charge
An Allegheny County woman will be charged by Canonsburg police with making false reports after she allegedly lied about being robbed in the borough last week.
Darlene Rubic, 58, of 106 Jonathon Court, Oakdale, came the police station April 7 to report she was robbed the previous afternoon as she and a friend walked on East Pike Street. She told Sgt. Loren Cochran a skinny black man wearing a black, hooded shirt and blue jeans ran up to them, stole her purse and then kept on running in the direction of North Central Avenue.
Rubic told Cochran her purse held prescription medication, a cellphone and a black wallet containing bank cards and $150. She attempted to have her prescription refilled but was told by the pharmacist she would have to file a police report. She claimed she went to the station April 6 to report the theft, but the office was closed.
Cochran said he called Rubic’s doctor and learned she had been to his office several times recently with different claims, trying to get more medication after it allegedly was stolen. She also allegedly tried to get a prescription at a hospital emergency room.
Cochran said he reviewed surveillance and determined she actually came to the station April 5. He said she still had the wallet and purse.
The charge will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge David Mark.
