Fans of New Orleans-style chicken will have to wait an additional two months to get their fix.

Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, which first announced an opening day of May 1 for the new South Strabane Township location, now say the restaurant will open July 1.

The former Long John Silver’s at 301C Oak Spring Road, near the entrance to Washington Mall, is currently under renovation. The fast-food chain, owned and operated by AR Group of Restaurants of Trenton, N.J., will support eight full-time and 14 part-time employees. According to Sam Durrani, chief operating officer, hiring will start two weeks before the opening date.

AR Group currently operates 30 Popeyes locations in five states.

The fast-food chain sells spicy, New Orleans-style chicken and side dishes. The closest restaurants to the South Strabane location are in Pittsburgh and North Versailles.
