SYCAMORE – A Washington Township man suffered burns after fire broke out in his Pettit Road home Thursday night.

John Finch was taken to an area hospital with burns he suffered on his feet while either attempting to extinguish the blaze or while leaving the home, Waynesburg-Franklin fire Chief Jeff Marshall said.

Finch’s injuries were not life-threatening, Marshall said. He was taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., which had no record of him being a patient Friday.

The fire company was called to the doublewide mobile home at 10:04 p.m.

“It was fully involved when we arrived on scene,” Marshall said. “Flames were coming through the roof.”

The home was destroyed. Finch and his wife, Norma, had been at home when the fire started, and called 911 to report the blaze.

The fire is believed to have started from an electrical problem in a space heater, Marshall said.

Waynesburg-Franklin Township fire company was assisted by Morris Township firefighters.

Firefighters had no problems fighting the blaze and had adequate water and manpower, Marshall said. They were on the scene for about two hours.
