GREENSBURG (AP) – A Pennsylvania man has been sentenced to a maximum of 30 months in prison after a courtroom assault left several deputies injured.

The Tribune-Review reports 35-year-old Jesse Hassinger, of Jeannette, received his sentencing Tuesday after pleading guilty to two counts of aggravated assault.

Police say the man began to punch and kick deputy sheriffs after seeing the woman who filed a protection-from-abuse claim against him in court April 4. One deputy says Hassinger tried to choke him after he was thrown from a wooden bench.

Three deputies were hospitalized after the melee for minor injuries.

Hassinger said during his sentencing he knows what he did wrong and is willing to accept it.

Prosecutors dismissed additional charges against Hassinger after his plea.
