MCKEESPORT (AP) – Two males have been wounded in a shooting during a National Night Out event in a Pittsburgh suburb that’s struggled to combat violence this year.

The names of the victims, who are 17 and 20 years old, were not immediately released after the shooting Tuesday about 7:30 p.m. in McKeesport.

The former mill town of about 10 miles southeast of Pittsburgh has had eight homicides so far this year despite having fewer than 20,000 residents.

Police and the mayor were nearby when the shots rang out during the event, which encourages people to gather outside in order to discourage crime.

Police cordoned off the areas where the men were found shot on a front lawn. Police found 18 shell casings from two different kinds of guns.

The victims are expected to survive.
