A West Finley man might have suffered a medical emergency before crashing his pickup truck into a building and parked vehicle Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Jefferson and Wylie avenues in Washington.

Washington police said David Shrader, 64, was driving north on Jefferson about 4:15 p.m. when his passenger looked over and saw that his head was down. The passenger grabbed the steering wheel in an attempt to gain control of the truck and put it in park, but Shrader’s foot was on the gas pedal.

The truck went off the road at the Interstate 70 viaduct before hitting the Jefferson-Wylie building at the intersection. The truck glanced off the building and hit a parked car. The truck continued into the intersection of Jefferson and Wylie, where it came to a stop after the passenger was able to get it into neutral.

Shrader was taken to Washington Hospital for treatment.
