An Amity man is being treated at a Pittsburgh hospital after he was stabbed in the side during an attempted robbery Monday night in the 500 block of Jefferson Avenue in Washington.

Jeremy Czapski, 32, told Washington police he was sitting on the back stairs at the rear of the Duncan & Miller Glass Museum, 525 Jefferson Ave., about 11 p.m. when he was approached by a white man in his late 20s or early 30s.

The man reportedly told Czapski “Give me your money or whatever you got.”

Czapski told police he laughed because he thought the man was joking. The two men then got into a confrontation. Czapski told police he was able to fight off his attacker but was stabbed in the left side. Czapski told police he never saw the knife.

The attacker fled on foot towards Meadow Avenue. Czapski, who told police he had never seen the man before, said he noticed his attacker had come from Meadow.

Police found the knife and a can of beer in the shrubbery behind the museum. A pair of sunglasses were also found on the sidewalk leading to the rear stairs of the museum. The attacker is about 6 feet, 2 inches tall with a heavy build and facial hair in a chin-strap style. He wore a blue shirt and blue jeans.

Czpaski was taken to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment.

Anyone with information on the attack is asked to call police at 724-223-4226.
