A Charleroi attorney has been temporarily suspended from practicing law by the state Supreme Court.

Attorney Keith Alan Bassi consented to the suspension, which will begin Sept. 15, the court’s disciplinary board announced Wednesday. The reason for the suspension was not immediately known.

Bassi was formerly part of the firm Bassi, Vreeland and Associates at 111 Fallowfield Ave., which also has offices in Washington.

“As of June 19, he was no longer with the firm,” said attorney Todd Pappasergi, a director at Bassi, Vreeland and Associates.

Pappasergi declined to comment further on the case or Bassi’s departure from the firm.

Both parties at the court filed a joint petition agreeing to the suspension. Bassi, who is Monongahela’s solicitor, was not available for comment Wednesday night.

Monongahela Mayor Bob Kepics said the city was told Bassi is no longer with the firm. He said council agreed to retain the firm as solicitor, using a different attorney.

“We’ll see how the rest of the year works out,” Kepics said.

Kepics said he had no additional comments regarding Bassi.

Bassi also is an owner of the Mon Valley Independent newspaper based in Monessen.

“He’s still very active as an owner of the newspaper,” said Jeff Oliver, the publication’s general manager.

Oliver said Bassi told the newspaper staff he was retiring from practicing law.
