A Westmoreland County woman was arrested Wednesday by Carroll Township police after she allegedly assaulted a nurse and paramedic in the emergency room of Monongahela Valley Hospital.

Mcall Leigh Argirakis, 30, of Smithton, was being treated for an unknown medical condition about 4:40 p.m. when she allegedly assaulted Bobbi Jo Rodino, a registered nurse, and Lillian Farquar, a paramedic. She allegedly hit them in the head as they tried to care for her, police said.

Rodino had visible injuries to her head and neck, police said.

After she was treated and medically cleared for transport to a temporary holding cell at Monongahela Police Department, she allegedly refused to get up and walk to a police cruiser. Police said Argirakis threw herself to the ground and had to be carried to the vehicle, then threw herself to the ground a second time as she was walking to be processed on the charges.

Argirakis was arraigned before District Judge Larry Hopkins on two counts each of aggravated assault and harassment and one count each of disorderly conduct and obstructing administration of justice. She was placed in Washington County jail on $50,000 bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing before Hopkins Aug. 31.
