McDonald police said speed and alcohol might have been a factor in a crash Sunday night that injured an Ohio man and a 20-year-old woman who was riding on his motorcycle when it crashed into another vehicle at Market and South Main streets in Burgettstown.

Randy Johnson, 50, of Toronto, Ohio, was going south on Main approaching the intersection with Market when the traffic signal turned red. Police said the motorcycle sped up, apparently trying to beat the light, when a vehicle driven by Jessica Shanor, 37, of Langeloth, made a left turn. Johnson’s motorcycle hit the rear quarter panel of her vehicle, police said.

Johnson was flown to UPMC-Presbyterian hospital for treatment. His passenger, Deidra Edwards, 20, of Stone Creek, Ohio, was taken to Weirton (W.Va.) Medical Center for treatment. Shanor was checked at the scene.

Police said they found a metal flask that appeared to contain alcohol on the road. Officers said they also learned Johnson and Edwards had been at a bar in Burgettstown just before the crash. Police are continuing their investigation.

Smith Township police and Burgettstown firefighters also assisted.
