Two Washington County men face numerous burglary and theft charges filed against them last week by the state police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Western Organized Crime Unit after a string of break-ins between June and August in Washington and Allegheny counties.

Timothy Kelly, 19, of 2109 Rankintown Road, Finleyville, and Scott Michael Davis, 32, of 31 Dovercrest Road, Eighty Four, are expected to be arraigned later this week before District Judge James Ellis on 23 counts of burglary and conspiracy, 22 counts of theft and criminal mischief and one count of attempted burglary.

Trooper Craig Yauch, who filed the charges, said it was a cooperative effort by officers from several departments during the investigation. The two are accused of burglaries in Carroll, North Strabane, Nottingham, Peters, Somerset and Union townships and Finleyville, Monongahela and New Eagle in Washington County and Bethel Park and South Park in Allegheny County.

“They did the burglaries pretty much the same way,” Yauch said. “One of them would take the tumbler out of the door, open it, grab the items and flee in the pickup truck.”

Yauch said the two were determined to be suspects after South Park police spotted their truck while responding to an alarm. The two had been previously arrested by South Park police for criminal trespass, and Davis had been driving a dark gray Dodge Ram pickup truck. Yauch said the two also matched the physical description of the suspects. The truck also matched the description of one seen during a burglary at a North Strabane business.

Monongahela police Officer Kevin Harris obtained an order from Washington County Court Aug. 9 for the installation of a tracking device on Davis’ truck.

On Aug. 11, state police conducted surveillance. The two were followed to a business on Brownsville Road in South Park. They reportedly entered the business, stole a cash register and fled. The two were taken into custody during a traffic stop with assistance from South Park, West Mifflin and Allegheny County police.

The two were interviewed and reportedly confessed to committing the rash of burglaries. Davis reportedly told investigators he had experience as a locksmith.

Yauch filed the charges at Ellis’ office Thursday. The two are reportedly undergoing treatment for unspecified reasons.

Burglaries they allegedly committed in Washington County were at Scenic Valley Golf Course, Church Hill Road, Ollie’s Pizza, Route 19, and Country Store, Venetia Road, all in Peters; Thomas Presbyterian Church, Linden Road, Nottingham; Joey D’s Cafe, Route 88, and Mitty’s Restaurant and Pizzeria, Brownsville Road Extension, both in Union; Rosie’s Mingo Inn, Route 136, Somerset; Sambol’s Bakery and Candy Shop, Dry Run Road, Carroll; Bethel Bakery, Route 19, and Suzie B’s, South Central Avenue, both in North Strabane.

They also reportedly burglarized R&R Pools, Main Street, New Eagle, three times and Two and a Fry Hotdog Shop, West Main Street, Monongahela, twice. The two also reportedly attempted to break into Thomas Fasteners Systems, Washington Avenue, Finleyville.
