Central Greene school board accepts superintendent’s resignation
WAYNESBURG – The Central Greene School Board voted unanimously to accept the resignation of Superintendent Brian Uplinger during a special meeting Thursday night.
“We wish him well in his new position,” board President Andrew Corfont said.
Uplinger, who was informed by the school board last month that his contract would not be renewed when it expires in June, was hired Aug. 17 as superintendent of Hazleton Area School District five hours away in northeastern Pennsylvania. His last day at Central Greene will be Sept. 15.
The Hazleton Area district consists of the southern portion of Luzerne County and small portions of Carbon and Schuylkill counties, according to the district website. It has 10,900 students and 700 teachers in 13 buildings. Central Greene, in comparison, has about 1,800 students in three buildings.
Uplinger said he starts his new job Sept. 18 and will be moving when he finds a house in that area.
“It’s been a busy four years,” Uplinger said after the board meeting Thursday. “I don’t regret anything and I wish everybody continued success.”
Corfont said the California’s Intermediate Unit will be assisting the board with the search for a new superintendent and will offer a presentation for the board during its committee meeting Sept. 12.
Corfont said the board has also had preliminary discussions about appointing an interim superintendent while it searches for someone to replace Uplinger.
“You have to have a superintendent or an interim superintendent,” Corfont said. “We hope to have a decision made on that by the next committee meeting.”
