Mine impoundment overflows during reclamation work
A fine-coal refuse impoundment at the CNX Coal Resources Bailey Mine in Richhill Township overflowed Aug. 16 while reclamation work was being conducted on the structure, a company spokesman said Friday. No injuries were reported.
The spill was contained within the permitted area of the property, and there were no environmental impacts, the spokesman said. Environmental controls and safeguards were effective, and remediation efforts are underway, the spokesman said.
A joint investigation of the incident is being conducted by the company and state and federal agencies. The state Department of Environmental Protection could provide no information on the incident.
