Ortitay proposes studying PennDOT consolidation
State Rep. Jason Ortitay, R-South Fayette Township, introduced a resolution Tuesday aimed at saving taxpayers money.
House Resolution 461 would direct the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to study the merits of consolidating state Department of Transportation regional districts.
“Currently, PennDOT has broken the state down into 12 regional districts,” Ortitay said. “Each district office is overseen by an executive, a number of engineers and other staff. By consolidating the districts, money can be saved by eliminating duplication. With the advent of technology, it is time state government embrace reinventing itself in order to work better for the people of the Commonwealth. By studying PennDOT’s operations structure, we will have a better idea what efficiencies could result in the most savings.”
The LBFC would have 90 days after the resolution is adopted to submit its report to the chief clerk of the House.
LBFC is a bipartisan, bicameral legislative service agency which conducts studies and makes recommendations aimed at eliminating unnecessary expenditures, promoting economy in state government and assuring state funds are being expended in accordance with legislative intent and law.
