Bentleyville man arrested in assault
A Bentleyville man was arrested Sunday on a warrant obtained last month by borough police after he allegedly assaulted a woman in her home in October.
Robert B. Murray Jr., 44, of 203 Old West Road, is accused of hitting a 35-year-old woman in the head with a folding chair during an Oct. 28 confrontation at her home in the 900 block of Old West. Bentleyville police charged him with aggravated assault and burglary.
Murray reportedly tore up the home during a domestic dispute and then left. He returned and was trying to kick in the door to get back into the residence.
A folding chair was on the sidewalk just outside the front door. The woman told police Murray had been at her house drinking. She said she went upstairs and went to bed. Murray reportedly woke her and accused her of stealing his cellphone, keys and money. Murray reportedly became irate and started breaking things.
The woman told police Murray flipped over a coffee table, breaking items that had been on it. When she tried to get him outside, he allegedly hit her in the head with the folding chair.
Murray was arraigned before District Judge Gary Havelka on the assault and burglary charges as well as charges of harassment and criminal mischief. He was placed in Washington County jail on $20,000 bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Wednesday before District Judge Curtis Thompson.
