Franklin Township paving project project stirs complaint
WAYNESBURG – One Franklin Township resident is frustrated with what he feels is unfair treatment after recent road work.
Terry Hare lives on Toll Gate Run and said at least two driveways were paved by workers after a paving project wrapped up on the township roadway.
“I would like them to come back out here and pave everybody’s driveway. If you can do one, you can do all,” he said. “I pay my taxes just like everybody else and I just don’t feel it’s fair.”
Franklin Township Supervisor Corbly Orndorff said the township’s contracted paving crew did pave one driveway during their construction, which was recently completed, because the homeowner’s yard was used to install a pipe for a culvert. The township and property owner came to an agreement for the use of the land for the right of way, he said.
“We paved approximately half the area he uses for a driveway and parking space,” Orndorff said. “We did not do any work off the right of way on his property.”
Orndorff said the road needed a new culvert in that section to prevent it from washing away, and most other steel culverts were replaced with plastic. He added the township works with landowners when their property is needed during a paving project.
It’s something the township has done before, Orndorff said, recalling another paving project on Orchard Road where a driveway was widened after work.
In an instance where a homeowner would like their driveway paved while crews are working on their road, Orndorff said the township puts them in touch with the contractor to work something out.
