A shuttered elementary school in Monongahela is back on the market with a list price of $1.2 million.

Costa Real Estate in Finleyville is marketing the former Monongahela Elementary Center at 1200 Chess St. for potential reuses that include senior living or medical or educational offices, the company’s website indicates.

Ringgold School District in August 2014 sold the building at auction to Carmen Paliotta Contracting of South Park for $71,500. The company said then it intended to use the building as its headquarters or redevelop it as apartments.

However, the property changed hands again two months later to a limited liability corporation named Venetia Commons, also of South Park, county tax records indicate. Venetia Commons could not be reached for comment Tuesday.

The property is now worth $4 million under the Washington County reassessment of 2017, the records show. The previous market value was $16,864.

The building was constructed with brick and limestone and situated on a 9.9-acre private lot.

Ringgold closed the school and another in nearby Donora in 2011, transferring students to renovated schools in Finleyville and Carroll Township. Donora purchased its school at auction, and it, too, remains vacant.

Superintendent Karen Polkabla said the district had no comment on the sale since it no longer owns the building.
