Supervisors in North Franklin Township approved a slight real estate tax increase Tuesday as part of the municipality’s 2018 budget.

The 0.30-mill property tax increase was needed to make up for losses created by the closing of Macy’s and an appeal that lowered the assessment for Washington Crown Center, North Franklin Supervisor Martha Ward said.

“It’s slim,” she said about the tax increase.

She said the township will lose $94,000 in taxes from the mall next year. Some new revenues have been generated by home construction, she said.

Real estate taxes will earn the township $570,468 under the terms of the $2.1 million spending plan.

The police department will cost taxpayers $942,750 next year.
