Police beat Feb. 7
Crash: Two Ohio men escaped injury in a vehicle fire Friday afternoon on Interstate 79 southbound. State police said Michael J. Springer, 47, of Newton Falls, Ohio, was driving a pickup truck when the axle became disabled and the left rear tire separated from the truck. Police said the broken axle then caught fire. Springer and his passenger, Kenneth D. Jenkins, 74, of Deerfield, Ohio, were able to extinguish it, police said.
Theft charges: Bailey Charles Thorne, 22, of 302 Cedarwood Drive, Carmichaels, was charged with theft, receiving stolen property and unauthorized use of a vehicle after state police said he stole a car early Sunday morning on South Market Street in Carmichaels. Police said Thorne was at Nancy Howard’s home Saturday when he allegedly took her car keys before leaving. He allegedly returned early the next morning and stole the car, according to the criminal complaint. Police said he drove to 183 Eddys Run Road in Wayne Township, where OnStar disabled the vehicle after Howard reported it stolen. Police said they found Thorne and a friend walking along Oak Forest Road near Maple Alley. Thorne allegedly told police he took the car “just to joyride,” according to court documents.
