Interstate 70 traffic changes planned
There will be changes in the traffic patterns on Interstate 70 at Bentleyville later this month when beams for a bridge that takes the highway over Wilson Road, Pigeon Creek and the Norfolk Railroad line are delivered to the construction site.
The beams will be delivered starting the week of Feb. 20. The first beams will arrive about 8 p.m. Feb. 21 and will be set on the eastbound side of the new bridge. The right (slow) lane of I-70 eastbound will be closed between 8 p.m. Feb. 21 to 6 a.m. Feb. 22, and all traffic will be directed to the left lane. The same closure will be repeated the following night during the same hours.
Beam deliveries will continue Feb. 24, but there will be no I-70 lane closures. Beam deliveries will resume the following week and continue through March 1. The deliveries will occur during the day and there will be no lane closures on the interstate, although traffic may be slowed in both directions.
There will be intermittent short-term delays on Wilson Road and Route 917 (Pittsburgh Road). Flaggers will be present to direct traffic. Motorists are urged to use caution while traveling through the project during the beam deliveries.
The work is being done as part of the total reconstruction of the highway from three-quarters of a mile west of the Ginger Hill interchange, extending about three-quarters of a mile toward the Bentleyville interchange. The contractor on the approximately $76 million project is Golden Triangle Construction Co. Completion is scheduled for December 2018.
