WAYNESBURG – Annette Phillips didn’t have to go far to find the perfect location for Yum Yum Tasty Diner.

The popular diner will leave Waynesburg Plaza on Sunday and move across the street to use the kitchen and restaurant area at Tommy Boy’s beginning March 1.

The move is necessary after Sheetz purchased the plaza with plans to bulldoze the strip mall in order to build a new convenience store on the site next to its existing gas station on Route 21 in Morrisville.

Phillips knew of those plans when she purchased Yum Yum in April 2015 from the previous owner, who operated it for two decades, but didn’t expect it would happen so soon. That forced her to find a new location and she searched all across the area looking for the perfect spot.

“I looked all over Waynesburg, hoping to buy,” she said. “That’s what I originally wanted to do.”

Instead, she settled on Tommy Boy’s – her first choice when she began looking – and she recently signed a lease to take over the kitchen and restaurant, expanding Yum Yum’s hours to now offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. The diner, which will include a coffee shop, will be open seven days a week from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m., she said.

Yum Yum and Tommy Boy’s, located at located at 120 Bill George Drive, Waynesburg, will operate separately, but Phillips hopes her menu will keep longtime customers happy, while still offering popular specials such as wing night and steak night to the bar’s patrons.

The new restaurant will be larger, allowing her to seat more people, she said.

“I’m excited about it. We all are. Their clientele really like the steak night and wing nights, and I’m going to keep that,” Phillips said. “We’ll bring in our baked goods and menu.”

She expects the transition to be smooth, keeping many of her current workers and Tommy Boy’s staff to wait tables at the new restaurant.

“It’s like having two businesses in one entity,” Phillips said. “How awesome is this?”
