Police beat Jan. 3
Rifle found: State police said a rifle was found near bushes next to a home along Main Street in Taylorstown on Dec. 6 sometime between 3:30 a.m. and 11:57 a.m. Police said the gun owner can contact state police at 724-223-5200 in order to provide information on the weapon so that police can verify the owner.
False identification: State police charged Ruschell Stone, 33, of false identification to law enforcement after she provided state police with a false name during an investigation of a house fire at 1195 W. Wylie Ave., Canton Township, at 12:45 p.m. on Dec. 23. According to police, Stone was inside the home when it caught fire and provided false identification because she had an outstanding warrant from Washington County Adult Probation. Charges were filed in district court and Stone was placed in Washington County jail.
DUI charge: Robert Lee Post, 48, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after state police found him unresponsive inside his running vehicle at 849 Henderson Ave., Canton Township, at 2:28 a.m. on Dec. 31. Police said Post displayed signs of intoxication.
Driver escapes serious injury: State police said Rachel Howard, 22, received minor injuries when she lost control of a 2003 Chevrolet Malibu while driving north on Weirich Avenue, near Caldwell Avenue in Canton Township, at 11:38 p.m. Dec. 31. The vehicle traveled over an embankment, rolled over and struck a tree. A passenger, Joseph Moss, 28, was not injured. Howard was taken by ambulance to Washington Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
All-terrain vehicle stolen: Karen Metz of Morris Township told state police someone stole a 2014 blue Polaris Sportman Quad 400 from an unlocked shed at the 400 block of Conger Road, Morris Township, sometime between November 18 and Dec. 18.
Man arrested: State police served a warrant for the arrest of Cody Ray Howard, 25, inside an apartment at Bell Meade Apartments, 815 S. Main St., North Franklin Township, at 9:18 p.m. Dec. 31. Howard was wanted for burglary, theft of firearms and probation violation in E. Butler Borough. Howard waived his arraignment in Washington County and was transported to Butler County Prison on the outstanding warrants. Marijuana, methamphetamines and related paraphernalia were also discovered, and charges were filed.
