State Sen. Camera Bartolotta, R-Carroll Township, was appointed by Senate President Pro Tempore Joe Scarnati to serve as chair of the Senate Intergovernmental Operations Committee for the 2017-18 legislative session.

The committee is responsible for reviewing proposals to restructure and streamline state government with the goal of promoting savings to taxpayers. In previous sessions, the panel studied proposals to consolidate legislative service agencies and review the use of evidence-based decision making to determine whether to expand, eliminate or modify existing government programs.

“The growing state budget deficit this year makes it extremely important for lawmakers to squeeze every ounce of efficiency out of existing programs and services,” Bartolotta said. “Taxpayers deserve to know that their money is being managed in a way that minimizes costs and maximizes results. I look forward to working with the members of the committee to explore every avenue to make state government operate more efficiently.”
